In the future, all Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) apps and services will be included under the Gemini brand, which until now was the name of the most advanced language model to date from the Mountain View giant. The entry on the scene of Gemini as an umbrella brand for all Google AI services represents the “death” of Bard, the rival of ChatGPT from the Alphabet subsidiary. This chatbot which hatched last year under the name Bard (after the English writer William Shakespeare, known by the nickname “The Bard of Avon”), It will be renamed Gemini, as announced yesterday by Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google.

In addition to brand new name, Bard (now Gemini) will become available on smartphones in the United States effective immediately. Smartphones with the Android operating system at their core will be treated to their own Gemini mobile app. And on Apple iPhones Gemini will be integrated into the current Google app for iOS. Google’s AI system will also replace the current Google voice assistant if users agree to the change.

Google has not yet announced when the new Gemini app will arrive on European soil (but its debut on the old continent could be delayed for several months). It is known, however, that a week after its debut in the United States, the app will also be introduced in other English-speaking countries and in Japan and South Korea.

Gemini Advanced, the paid version of Gemini, also hatches

Beyond the new app for Gemini, Google has also presented a paid professional version of this AI system in society: Gemini Advanced. Based on the Ultra 1.0 language model, Google’s new paid chatbot will initially be available in 150 English-speaking countries worldwide and will be part of the Google One subscription program.

Gemini Advanced costs less than $10 per month, but is, however, only and exclusively available in the more expensive version of Google One, which costs an additional $10. By contracting this package, whose value is $19.99 per month, the user will have access to Gemini, the premium version of Google One and two terabytes of storage on Google.

The American multinational has not yet commented on the launch of Gemini Advanced in Europe, where it could arrive in the coming months.

According to Sissie Hsiao, Chief Experience Officer of Gemini and Google Assistant, The advanced version of Google’s AI chatbot will be much more powerful at executing complex tasks such as writing code, thinking logically, following particularly sophisticated instructions, and collaborating on creative projects. “Gemini Advanced will allow you to not only have longer and more detailed conversations, but it will better understand the context of previously entered prompts,” emphasizes Hsiao.
